MICROSOFT WINDOWS
Microsoft Windows is multitasking operating system software that allows multiple
applications to run or execute task on its interface. For example, in windows
environment, a user can perform the task of playing and Audio CD while he/she
is typing a document.
Microsoft Windows is an operating environment created by Microsoft that provides an
interface known as Graphical User
Interface (GUI) for IBM compatible computers. Windows eliminates the need
for a user to have to type a command at a command line, like Ms-DOS, by using a
mouse to navigate through drop-down menus, dialog boxes, buttons, tabs and
icons.
It is also an operating
environment, which provides an excellent graphical user interface that makes
the interaction with the machine a fascinating and enjoyable one.
It enables you to
orchestrate the entire task you perform on your computer.
WINDOW
Window is a working
environment for programs (applications) and data stored on your computer.
The term window is also used to describe the
visual square area of a program.
A window is essentially a
rectangle area on your screen in which you can view an application or document.
You can open, close, move and change the size of a window. You can open more
than one window at a time, and you can even minimize a window to an icon or
enlarge it to fill the entire desktop.
Most windows or user
interfaces have the same set of tools and components to control the window and
to control the program or application running in that window. These include the
window borders, control menu button, windows title, title bar, minimize button,
maximize or restore buttons, close button, menu title, scroll bars, and scroll
arrows.
The term graphical
interface means you do not have to remember the commands to use the computer.
Instead, you can click on commands or tools on menu or icons on the screen.
